As a creator or Influencer agency, it’s hard to deny the challenges that are impacting brand campaigns. Brand deals are becoming fewer and far in-between. And during these challenging times, we are allowed to reflect and be vulnerable as creators and influencer marketers.
At Marketing My Way, we are always looking to reflect on the current state of the creator economy and we embrace our vulnerability. We often remind ourselves to “get back to the basics,” especially during challenging times.
If you are a creator or an influencer marketer that represents talent, here are 3 things worth remembering. This comes from the lessons we’ve learned as a creator-led agency built on community.
Referrals should be a part of your marketing strategy, they leverage consumer trust and loyalty to drive new business. They also have proven to be more effective than typical advertising methods.
Only two percent of consumers take traditional ads into consideration, while a reported 86 percent of consumers depend on reviews and referrals when purchasing.
A referred customer is more likely to be a champion of your brand. These brand champions have an army of referrals within their network. This is why referral marketing is impactful, it requires community support. It’s not what you say about yourself, it’s what other people say about you that builds a sense of trust.
For example, here is what people are saying about our Founder and CEO, Christina Brown:

Movement is life, it makes space for inspiration! Body movement is an easy way to release stagnant energy, while providing inspiration for creative thinking. Movement allows the mind to be free from focus, which makes space for ideas to roam.
Walking is an easy way to move the body. It’s also a great way to boost creativity. According to a Stanford Study, walking (both indoors and outdoors, can increase an individual’s creative output by up to 60% compared to sitting.
Movement can help you get unstuck, especially during times of uncertainty when things feel stagnant. This can spark creativity, which shifts the perspective from stuck to unstuck.
If we put the creator economy into perspective, influencer marketing is projected to grow 12.12% where it will reach $22.2 billion by next year. This should be all the inspiration needed to shift the perspective during these challenging times. As long as the focus is on forward movement, creativity will follow!

Being a part of the creator economy is a craft. Creators drive culture and conversation because they are a source of community.
Community brings a sense of identity, which is why 33% of consumers follow a creator- they identify with the community that they are a part of. The best way a creator can build community is by perfecting their craft.
Some of the best creators we’ve worked with, don’t have millions of followers or perfectly curated content calendars. What they have are clear goals and consistent habits that are rooted in commitment.
These creators aren’t afraid to fail and they excel at being bold. This is how they push past their comfort zones and where they learn from mistakes. Additionally, they seek feedback that allows them to learn more about their craft.
Most of the time, a creator’s craft is the thing that they feel most drawn to. It’s really that simple!
Once a creator has a strong sense of who they are and how they want to show up, then we get to see how crafty they are.
Take Butter.Hand for example, she is a content creator, food blogger, and recipe developer with a passion for data. We partnered with her on a brand collaboration with Graza for the launch of their Frizzle high heat cooking oil.
For this launch campaign, Butter.Hand tested Frizzle’s high heat with her Deep-Fried Oreo recipe. She wanted to tap into the feeling of nostalgia, while also giving a sense of comfort. This was a crowd pleaser because she is known for her comfort recipes and her audience loves anything fried.
At MMW we work with creators, like Butter.Hand, to perfect their craft. It is our belief that every creator has more than one craft. Which is why we are committed to nurturing the creativity of our creator community.
If you’ve made it this far and you want to continue to fuel your creativity. Let’s connect, send us a message – we would love to hear from you.
Remember: Keep doing it your way, it’s the best way to do things.
